Going on a camper van trip in the winter is just as fun as in the summer, it just takes a little more preparation than in the winter! Here are my top five tips for a winter camper van trip!
Even if your van has a heater, you’ll want to make sure you have cozy blankets for in the van and warm layers for exploring! Nothing is better than cozying up in your van at the end of the day out in the cold!
Not all camper vans have heaters, so make sure (if you’re renting), that you get one that has a heater! When we went to Leavenworth in the winter, this was our saving grace.
It’s super important to know how the van your renting handles winter weather. Is it 2WD or 4WD? Do you need chains or traction tires to get over the mountain pass? Make sure that you know what driving route you’ll be taking and are checking weather conditions as your travel date approaches!
I feel like it’s more important to know what your route is going to be in the winter than in the summer when weather conditions don’t matter as much. In the winter, you need to know how weather conditions will be affecting your driving. It will help you be better prepared and help you know how to plan for stops and places to spend the night.
I feel like this goes without saying, but it’s so important to be prepared with all the supplies you could need… especially in the winter when you could freeze. Make sure your gas tank is at least half full, have plenty of water and food, have a fully charged power source for charging phones, running water etc. You’ll feel so much more at ease when you are prepared for the unexpected!
I hope these tips were helpful for you as you plan your winter camper van trip! Drop any questions in the comments below and I would be happy to answer them!
