Maui is an incredibly fun place to visit with kids. There are endless things to do and the weather is unbeatable. You will never have a day without something fun to do. Whether it’s the beach or a fun indoor activity, there is plenty of entertainment to be had. Originally this was supposed to be my top five recommendations of things to do, but then I had more than five and changed it to my top seven things to do in Maui with kids! In no particular order, here they are!
This was by far our favorite thing to do as a family! The beach is protected by a reef so the waves are small and the water is so calm and warm! It was seriously such a blast! My daughter started out our trip afraid of the ocean, and she overcame her fear at this beach. It was the perfect place for her to grow comfortable with the water and learn that it was fun to play at the beach.
Pro-tip: Grab pizza at Lahaina Pizza Co. and bring it to the beach for a delicious sunset meal!
Whaler’s Village in Ka’anapali has a wide selection of fun shops to visit as well as a waterfront boardwalk with a beautiful view of the ocean where lots of boats sail. The best part is that in the main courtyard of the shops there is a splash pad and small play area! There is also a coffee shop called Island Vintage that sells amazing acái bowls! It’s a perfect way to relax and cool off!
Haleakala National Park is home to the dormant volcano, Haleakala. It’s elevation is over 10,000 feet, has many hiking trails and is home to the endangered Hawaiian Goose (Nene)! It’s a bit of a drive up, but on a clear day, the views are spectacular! As for weather, it is extremely cold so layers are VERY important!! The wind can be pretty crazy, so make sure to pack a puffy coat!
Aside from the more touristy locations, there’s some super fun things to do on the island like the Lahaina Animal Farm and Petting Zoo which looks like a blast! We haven’t been but the reviews are stellar and it looks beautiful! There’s also a trampoline park called the Ultimate Air Maui Trampoline Park!
In addition, one place we’ve never been but have always heard great things is the Maui Ocean Center and Aquarium! They have tons of fun exhibits and activities! Make sure to book your tickets in advance!
I love these types of activities to have as backups when kids are just done going to the beach or driving around! Tons of fun in one spot!
This was by far one of my favorite things we did when we were in Maui! They have some sailing trips that aren’t meant for kids/families but some of them are and it will say on the booking site! There was even a four course meal included as well as drinks!
My daughter was a little unsure at first, but we all had a blast watching the sunset out on the open ocean! They also offer snorkeling trips too in the morning! The staff was all very kind and I highly recommend them! You can click here to view their site!
I don’t know why I didn’t list this one first because I know it’s our most favorite thing we did on Maui! Before this trip, I had never heard of ResortPass until I started researching day passes for resorts for our trip! I found ResortPass and found some incredible options for day passes into top resorts on Maui!
Basically you pay for a day pass and then you can spend the whole day hanging out at a really cool resort without having to pay to stay the night which costs so much more than the day pass! We chose to get a daybed which costs more, but I’m so glad we did so that we could lay out in the shade and my daughter could take a nap! It was perfect!
We chose to get our day pass at the Andaz Maui Resort and let me just tell you, it was the nicest place I’ve ever been! It was luxurious and so fun to experience as a family! They had five pools and beach access with chairs! The zero-entry pool was our favorite because it was so kid friendly! My daughter literally played for hours in that pool!
While there is no food included (aside from a free mochi!) and water, you can order with the pool side servers! Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly! They even provided sunscreen!
It was seriously the best thing to do to take a “break” from our vacation! You laugh, but I’m serious!
The Road to Hana can be daunting for adults, let alone kids! In order to drive the whole thing, you’d be driving the better part of day without stopping much. Including stops, it’s a long day. I would recommend doing part of it and starting at Paia. There’s a wide array of beautiful stops along the way like hiking trails, shave ice, waterfalls and much more! Lots of fun for everyone!
If your kids are spectacular in the car on long drives, then by all means go for it and drive the whole thing!
I hope this was helpful for you as you plan your trip to Maui! There are so many fun things to do which is why it’s our favorite place! You can watch my Youtube video about this same topic here!
